Kids on Bikes Overview

Kids on Bikes is an ENNIE award winning TTRPG created by Jonathan Gilmour and Doug Levandowski. This nostalgic game takes inspiration from the ‘Strange Adventure in a Small Town’ tropes that you find in media like The Goonies, E.T., and Stranger Things. It recently released its second edition, and has two spin-off games, Kids on Brooms and Teens in Space, which play with the setting to tell different, but similar stories.

Dice in Kids on Bikes

Kids on Bikes has some signature mechanics that make the base for all their games, and defines how they use dice. Your character has six stats, and when you create your character you assign a different die type to each stat. For example, a particularly witty character might have a d20 in Brains, but a d4 in Brawn. When you make a check, you roll the die for the corresponding stat, with a difficulty ranging from 1 to 20. A unique feature of dice rolls in KoB is that criticals ‘explode.’ When you roll the highest number on a particular die type, you get to roll again and add the second result to the first. This can happen any number of times, so your criticals can stack and allow you to meet the difficulty even if your die normally couldn’t get that high.

What We Love

The vibes of Kids on Bikes are immaculate. We love the nostalgia filled adventures that bring us back to the feeling of being a kid, riding your bike to the corner store, and getting into all manner of trouble. Kids on Bikes is a game about the adventure of the everyday life of kids, teens, and even adults, and we love the stories that come out of the collaboration of all the players.
